History

The St. Nicolas Church is located in the graveyards of the Bogoseva(c) village. It was built in the 16th century by the villagers. The church is single-naved, rectangular foundation, three-slope apse in its eastern side. The interior is rich with religious frescoes. In its western wall, in the façade, there is a niche, holding the painting of a saint figure. On the northern interior wall, there are two niches, within which saints are painted. It is constructed in semi-processed stone, connected in lime plaster. The whole façade is unplastered, showing clearly the structure of walls. It is covered by a two-guttered roof, covered in stone slabs from the outside, while the ceilings are shaped in circular lintels. The entrance to the church, in its western side, includes an annex, above which the bell tower is built. The site includes the village graveyard, and a fencing wall built in stone. In 2012, the church was subject to restoration/conservation works by the Non-Governmental Organization IRD, using a donation by the US Ambassadors Fund. The church is used by the villagers for their ritual ceremonies.
