History

The St. Sunday Church is located in the north-western part of the Nen-Kalaja area, namely within the Historical Zone of Prizren. In 1966, during archeological research works, ruins of this facility were found. Parts of the apse and the southern wall, 1.5 m high, were found. Digging also resulted in discovering stone fragments, one of them showing an inscription with the date of construction, 1371. Based on the analogies and typology of sacral buildings of this time, a reconstruction project was designed. In the years of 1995/97, the reconstruction took place. The Church is of rectangular shape, with one cupola. It is built in stone and brick, with the clausonage technique. From the outside, the cupola is octagonal. Over the entrance gate, there is a two-line inscription. During the period of 2005-2008, the church was restored, thereby replacing the roofing sheeting and cupola, partial plastering of the interior, and electrical installations.
