History

In the town of Peja, in the quarter of "Ahmet Bey" (now the neighborhood of Haxhi Zeka) to the west of "Kurshumli Mosque" there is a grave mausoleum, set over a Muslim cemetery (holy tomb) of Halil Bey, erected in 1545. This mausoleum is located in the courtyard of the maytep of mosque, which does not exist anymore. As regards Halil Bey, there are some notes, respectively, writings from dr. Skender Rizaj, where he characterized Halil Bey as good and charitable person for the population of Peja and surrounding. After passing away, the tomb of Halil Bey was built andlater turned into a turban. (Mausoleum over a Muslim grave) According to oral history transmitted from generation to generation, Halil Bey was a very good person and charitable man for the population of the city of Peja. From what has been said above, shows that Halil Bey was famous person a bright personality and therefore need attention and respect to his grave mausoleum. Halil Bey tomb and mausoleum has historical value and is therefore declared monument under protection since 1966, named Halil Bey memorial. The Tomb is erected from stones, folded and not immured, without mortar. The tomb is not in good condition; therefore, the intervention to preserve this 16th century mausoleum is required.
