History

The Stone Mansion „Kulla‟ of Jashar Pasha The Stone Mansion „Kulla‟ of Jashar Pasha is located in the expanded area of old Peja Bazaar. A civic mansion carried out in the second half of the XIX century. The mansion had the function of the guest house. The mansion preserves its original elements but it has been restored by the family, after being burned in 1999. The mansion has three elevations, with rectangular baseline, 12.5 X 12.05m measurements. The building belongs to the type of stone paving that emerges from the corner of the mansion and interior stairs towards the guest house. The building is rustic carried out mainly with river stones with front facade, paving and hewn stones. Unlike the mansion types, in which lighting runs by growing in height, in this mansion the lightning on the main facade is almost equal. The mansion over the time has undergone transformations in paving openings and in the medium windows of the floor, in which case window curves turned into architraves. After restoration windows are back to its original condition. In this mansion we have weaving of architecture elements of the old city of Peja, and this is especially visible on the inside, respectively at the men’s guest room and at other alcoves and in other functional and decorative elements. The mansion, besides the architectural values, it has historical value for the fact that from 23 to 28 January 1899 the League of Peja, or the so-called Besa-Besë was held, where Mr. Haxhi Zeka was elected as a chairman, a prominent figure in the fight for the independence of Albania. Nowadays, the mansion is used for residential purposes and the internal organizing is adapted to the current living needs, currently, the owner of the mansion is Loemzare Kelmendi.
