Traditional House of Mazllom Zherrka (Gjakova)

This premise is located in a place called Çabrati street near historic area “Grand Charshiya” in Gjakova and was built in the XIX century. The house of served for residential purposes, but recently after restoration, it is used as hotel premises. This house belongs to urban porch style housing. Porch is built on the main facade and in its midst. Porch is situated on the first floor in semicircle form and is confined and consists of windows throughout its perimeter. Porch rests on four pillars, based on stone plinth with the purpose of safety of humidity and in this way forms the open porch which serves as a pre-entrance to the house. The main facade is composed of windows in sequence one after another, both at the ground floor and floors. All windows possess security elements of metal, with standard decorative elements, on ground floors and floors. The materials used for construction are semi-carved stone, with which the foundations were built. Mud material is also used, with which the walls are built in (bondruck). Roof structure and of interstitial space are made of oak timber. Wood is also used for various decorations as roofs, doors, windows and various lockers. The cover consists of traditional tiles. This premise as not subject to any transformation over time, but is affected by age, so conservation - restoration interventions were necessary, which were conducted during 2013-2014. During these works, damaged windows and premise’s shelter are partly repaired, facade is improved and all the elements of wood in the interior as well as exterior have been painted.
