History

The House of Musa-efendi Sheherzade is located in the plain area of the city, in the “Old Saray” street, built by the end of the 18th century. In the 19th century, a substantial renovation was made, especially in its interior, while in the 20th century, interventions were made in the vestibula, located in the northern side of the building, while the porch is closed on the upper floor. This is a plain area residential facility, built in floors. It is asymmetric. The building is rich in ethnographic elements internally. It is worth specifically mentioning the chimneys, one on the ground floor, and two in upper floors. The wood masonry is also rich, especially in ceiling woodwork (flowery ceilings), cupboards, and other items. On the main façade, in its eastern side, wood tumblers are found, a feature of some other houses in Prizren as well. In the middle of the 20th century, the yard of the building was cut in half, and a new building was built, thereby covering half of the façade. After the 80-es, the facility was not used for housing, but only as an electrical goods storage room. In 1999, the owners constructed the roof. During 2013, the building underwent restoration works, and it is planned for an Ethnographic Museum.
