History

The mosque is located in the Tailors neighbourhood, at the intersection of the main and t the side road with the front oriented towards northwest. Based on various documents, the mosque is called Terzi Memi, Terzi Memishi and Terzi Mehmet Bey mosque and is also known as the Terzimahala mosque. According to the inscription on the entrance door written in Arabic, the mosque was built in the XVIII century, precisely in 1721 by Terzi Memishi. Part of the mosque’s porch was rebuilt at the end of the XIX century. Access to the mosque is from Ismet Jashari Kumanova Street through the metal door. At the entrance of the mosque, there is a yard and a new fountain. The main mosque walls are built of stone material, linked with lime mortar, thickness 100 cm and 60 cm porch walls, built of baked bricks. Doors and windows are wooden. Dome of the mosque is known for the height, approximately 10 m and is covered with octagonal tiled roof. The mosque was restored several times, with the last restoration was carried out in 2010 by the Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency /TIKA /. once there were the cemeteries in the backyard, which today do not exist, but today there is a Middle Madrasa “Alauddin” built in 2000. In the mosque’s yard, there used to be a fountain, whose inscription today is preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Prizren. Terzi Mahala Mosque is one of the mosques where the prayer is performed for the dead. Today the mosque is in good condition and owned by of the Islamic Community of Prizren. It possesses historical value as a Islamic religious monument of the XVIII century and possesses social values, because it is in the service of the Islamic community of the city.
