History

Fountain is rectangular and is oriented towards northeast-southwest. It is walled with stone shape associated with white lime mortar. In the south-western part of it there are troughs rising as part of the fountain. Fountain has rectangular dimensions: height 0.76 m, width 0.80 m and a length of 1.33 m. Washtub has half circle shape with dimensions of 1.10 mx 12.50 m. On the side, it was lined with marble tiles decorated around corners and in the middle. Trough is raised with tiles reused stone tombs (spolie), some of which retain epitaph written inscriptions in Arabic alphabet. Central washtub plate is square and pronounced inscriptions in zigzag line form between a herbal motif in the middle from where the water comes. Dating is difficult to be found since the object is damaged including the cultural layers during construction of 50s of XX century. But judging from the cement slurry which set washtub tiles on the bottom, it can be said that the fountain is mounted in the first half of the XIX century and represents one of a dozen public fountains of Prishtina. During the 50s of XX century foundations of a mosque and plastic stones marble pieces (part of tombs), dragged and damaged were found near the fountain.
