History

According to the inscription on the facade, the building of the City Library "Hivzi Sylejmani" dates since 1930. Initial function was residence and the house and it was owned by a dealer of Jewish heritage Jovan Milic from Prishtina. The courtyard of the building is surrounded by adobe walls covered with traditional tiles, and with high greenery (pine trees), which emphasize the location in a particular way. Ground floor of this one floor building has a constructive content and the external pillars that hold the stairs and pauses through which access the first floor. Mid-floor and roof crowns are emphasized as horizontal elements with special plastic processing. The roof is traditional and four sided. Front facade is divided into two symmetrical parts which contain entrances, stairs and pauses. The main motive in decorative content presents dominant motifs around windows. Aesthetic integrity of the building is affected by the later interventions, which are quite distinct. Since November 1944, former Communist Party of Yugoslavia in Kosovo has been placed in this building, and since 1948 this house has turned into the library of the city of Prishtina. The library contains two associated buildings in its yard: reading room P+0 and archive P+0, built with new construction material, which together make up an architectural ensemble.
