History

In the city of Gjilan, the opposite of Atik Mosque, the building of the School of Music is located, former Saraj of Mustafa Pasha. This building was built in 1887 by Mustafa Pasha and has served for housing. Before World War II it was purchased by Nuredin Maliq Aga, and has continued to be used for housing. After World War II the building was transferred to state ownership and was used as elementary school, while today it is owned by the municipality and performs the function of the lower school of music. This building has historic and architectural value. It presents an example of public buildings built in the late 19th century in Gjilan. The building is distinguished for the work of wood elements by local wood master - Hajrullah Koliqi. The walls are made of hardened bricks joined with mortar. The building is arranged on the raised ground floor and the floor. Access to the facility is made through external stairs that are situated in front facade. Front facade is characterized by decorations around windows of neoclassical style, where semi-circular forms are distinguished in the upper part of openings. In 2002 the building was damaged by the earthquake. In late of 2007 the restoration interventions have began which ended in early 2008.
