History

The mansion of “Kulla” of Zenel Beu Within the complex composition of Zenel Beu in Peja, there is a two-story mansion “kulla” that occupied the main part in comparison with the guest house, which was in the internal part of the courtyard. Nowadays, the guest house doesn’t exist, while the mansion “kulla” has been restored after being burned down and shelled by the Serbian forces in 1999. The mansion “kulla” was built in the second half of the XIX century and had the function of guest room. The mansion “kulla” belongs to the type of mansions with stone paving that is projected externally from the corner, and with access to the upper floors from inside. Even in this mansion the basement was used to for warehouse, the first floor fulfilled the needs of the family in the upper floor there was men’s guest room with paving. In terms of internal organization, the characteristic it is that each room has hamamxhik (bath), and sanitary joint emerges from the main volume from behind. During the Young Turks period (the first decade of the XX century) the facility suffered some changes in the architectural construction elements, windows and doors, which got bigger. Until today, the mansion has changed its function several times, during the communist regime the mansion was confiscated and since 1945 to 1947 has had the function of post office and prison. The building was returned to the owner in 1947, which together with his family continued to live in it until 1999. The restoration was done by the owner and the mansion is used as a residence, while the ground floor was turned into a shop and its construction elements are changed to suit the new function
