History

The former “Jadran” hotel is located in the city centre, in the “Adem Jashari” square in Mitrovica. This building was constructed in 1928. The building is an investment of the rich family Zarkovic from Mitrovica. Initially, the building had functioned as a hotelier facility, but also later as an administrative building for the Trading Enterprise “LUX”, and later also as a library for the city. The building is now privatized, and the ground floor is used for commercial premises. The building is of public urban nature, and has the structure G+F+1. The building is characterized by a secessionist style, at an “L” shaped foundation. The central façade dominates the building, realized in the angle of two sides of the building, in a circular shape, and the roofing in a circular awning. The dominating entrance at the angle, protruding on two polls, and a circular balcony on the upper floor, the only one for the building, along with the placement of the building in the section of central streets of the city, offers an impression of successful implementation of an architectural work. The building was constructed for hotelier purposes, for the needs of that time. Looking at floors, the cellar was designated for economic purposes, and the ground floor served for hotelier services, while the upper floor had the accommodation capacities. The construction materials used are rather traditional, stones, baked argyle bricks, domestic produce of the owner, and wood constructions. The roofing in baked argyle roof tiles is rather visible, while the circular roof and several other elements are covered in copper sheeting. The building has underwent several transformations, mainly in the ground floor façade, the changes in number and form of openings. The building today is a relatively good shape. To this day, the facility has generally preserved its original structure of the building, and this is rather visible in the frontal façade of the building.
